Winter: The Season of Water / This Will Make You Sit on the Edge of your ChairPosted: Nov 13th, 2012
We have entered the season of winter on the Chinese calendar. Winter is associated with the Water element. Over the next six weeks we will be moving to the zenith of winter on the solstice. The next several newsletters will focus on the power of Water as it is expressed in the body, the mind, and the spirit.
Winter: The Season of Water
We all know that water seeks the lowest point. Likewise, winter is easily seen as the time of year with the lowest energy - the sun is at its lowest in the sky at this time, and the amount of daylight is at its least, as are the temperatures. We also know that the deep power of water is what carved the Grand Canyon and that the devastation of a hurricane is unstoppable.
In the body, Water is expressed in the kidneys and urinary bladder. The mental and emotional capacities of Water are reflected in our courage, determination and perseverance. And Water's spiritual gift is wisdom.
Sitting on the edge of your chair is an easy way to improve your posture and THAT will make it easier to breathe. We do not realize how much the way we sit at our desks, cars or in armchairs affects the way we breathe. When we slump, the diaphragm and the lungs are inhibited from moving freely. An erect spine makes it easy to breathe smoothly and completely which keeps the mind calm and alert, and our physical energy more vital.
